This past weekend we had another incredible opportunity to gather with our middle school students for our 6th Annual Lock-In!
It was a time full of community building, laughter, worship, and an impactful lesson about the importance of community—how God created us to live out our faith not in isolation, but alongside others who encourage and strengthen us.
The truth is, students are going to form community somewhere. Our hope is to provide them with a Christ-centered community of other believers, because it is almost impossible to follow Jesus alone. What matters most is our relationship with God, and weekends like this help point students toward the truth that anchors their faith.
One of the most powerful parts of the weekend was watching our high school leaders step up—teaching, leading, and investing in our middle school students. We believe it’s vital for older students to learn how to teach and disciple, and this weekend they did an amazing job connecting and sharing truth.
We’re also reminded how all of this is possible because of the generosity of so many over the years. We’ve been doing ministry for 21 years, and nine years ago The River Church gave us this building. That gift, along with countless others, allowed us to renovate Building 229, provide bunk beds and space for nearly 90 students, and run a retreat that—if done in the traditional way, such as traveling to the mountains—would have cost around $10,000. But because of the generosity of those who gave in the past, this Lock-In didn’t cost us anything at all beyond our time. Students simply gave small donations to cover some food and utilities, and God provided the rest.
We are beyond thankful—for our volunteers, for our high school leaders, for our students, and for the faithful provision of the Lord. All glory to God for an unforgettable weekend!
