Sunday Morning Mobile Mission Outreach - Street Ministry in Thomasville

Posted on

Yesterday we went to a few different places around our community doing outreach, and it was really cool seeing how God opened doors in simple conversations throughout the day.

At one apartment complex, we met several students who had never been connected with our youth group before. Some of them actually had connections with families and volunteers already involved in our ministry, which was really encouraging.

One of the sweetest moments happened there when a little girl came running up to one of our students, hugged her, and asked if she would be her best friend. When she said yes, her face immediately lit up. She shared that she did not really have many friends around her, and you could tell how much it meant to her just to have someone spend time talking with her.

We also went to a laundromat, and one of the students with us was able to speak Spanish and communicate with several Spanish-speaking families there. It was really cool watching conversations happen naturally and seeing people encouraged and prayed for in their own language. It was one of those moments that reminded us how God can use different gifts and abilities in really meaningful ways.

Another meaningful conversation happened with a woman we met while she was out walking. She shared that she enjoys walking there because it gives her a sense of peace and safety. She also told us that the past couple of weeks had been especially difficult for her.

As we kept talking, we asked if she knew Jesus, and she shared that she did. Before we left, we asked if we could pray with her, and she gladly agreed. But before we prayed, she told us she wanted to give us something.

She handed us two stapled papers. On the front were different countries listed with markings beside them, and on the back were names of people and situations she had been praying for. She explained that she keeps a copy of those papers with her at all times because prayer is something that genuinely matters to her.

What really stood out was that even though it was her personal prayer list, she still wanted to hand it to us. She even mentioned that some of the questions written on the papers might be difficult for teenagers to answer and suggested maybe a youth leader should look over them first. We thanked her, and she said she felt like it was in good hands.

We were able to pray with her, encourage her, and remind her that God is always with her, even in difficult seasons. It was one of those conversations that did not feel rushed at all and just reminded us how many people around us are quietly carrying things we cannot see.

One of the coolest moments of the day happened while we were grabbing donuts together afterward. A family was there with a close family friend who had not gone to church with them that morning. While sitting there together, some of our students simply started encouraging her and talking about how much of a difference it can make when you have people around you who genuinely love and care for you unconditionally.

It was not some huge dramatic moment, but it really felt like a God moment. Just students loving and encouraging someone who may have really needed it that day.

Days like this remind us that outreach is often about very simple moments. A conversation. A prayer. An encouragement. A hug. When we are willing to go, willing to listen, and willing to love people, God continually gives opportunities for us to be His hands and feet.
