Favorite Unexpected Moment at Bigstuf 2026

Posted on

One of my favorite unexpected moments from BigStuf happened on the way back from St. Andrews State Park.

The middle school boys and I stopped at Circle K to get gas, and I made the very important camp decision that everyone needed a slushy. As we walked inside, the boys started singing what they called the “Slushy Song” (which I’m pretty sure they made up on the spot). They were singing so loudly and enthusiastically that people all around the store stopped and turned around to see what was going on.

Of course, we had to take a picture outside to document this historic Circle K visit. But the best part was what happened next.

A couple of women inside the store heard the boys singing and started singing along. Before long, our students, the women, and even some of the Circle K employees were all singing together. It was one of those moments that nobody planned and nobody could have scripted.

Before we left, our students gathered around the women and the employees and prayed for them.

What started as a simple gas stop and slushy run became a reminder that God can use ordinary moments in extraordinary ways. You never know what can happen when you’re willing to engage with people, share some joy, and take a moment to pray.
