LA-Hollywood Mission Trip Story 2026

Posted on

When arriving to serve in LA, we met a 73-year-old woman sitting on the porch and spent a couple of hours listening to her story. She shared about losing both her husband and mother, suffering two strokes, and eventually finding herself homeless—something she never imagined would happen to her after years of serving others as a sheriff. She told us, “I went from helping people like this to becoming one of those people.” It was such a reminder that all of us are vulnerable to the hardships of life, but we each have a choice in how we respond to those hardships. It would be so easy for her to blame God for everything she has experienced, yet instead she continues to trust Him and make it her mission to love and help others while living on the streets. As she shared, I couldn’t help but think about the widow in Mark 12 who gave her two small coins. She may not have much by the world’s standards, but she continues to offer what she has with faith, compassion, and generosity. Sometimes the people who seem to have the least are the ones who give the most. - written by Lauren Strickland
