This summer our students spent another day in Tallahassee doing what Jesus did—slowing down, seeing people, listening to their stories, praying with them, and pointing them to the hope found in Christ.
Throughout the day we met people from every walk of life. We met a man who had just been released from prison and was making the trip back home with no family waiting for him. We met a college student preparing to leave for law school in Boston and prayed for the next chapter of her life.
One of our students stopped to talk with a young woman who said she never really has anyone to talk to. They talked for more than 30 minutes. By the end of the conversation she was in tears, hugged every one of our students, and said it was the best day she had had in a very long time.
At the laundromat, one of our students walked over to a woman standing by herself. She later shared that she had turned away the first group that tried to talk with her, but when this student came over she knew the Lord wanted her to listen. They talked about God’s faithfulness, prayed together, and she couldn’t wait to tell her pastor and Bible study how God had used that conversation to encourage her faith.
Another man outside the laundromat began encouraging us. After we prayed with him, he shared what God had done in his life and was so thankful that he wanted to walk our group to get ice cream just so he could spend a little more time with us. We also met a man who survived a brain aneurysm years ago and now believes God has kept him alive so he can spend every day telling others about His goodness.
Days like today remind us that evangelism is often much simpler than we make it. It starts by noticing people, listening well, caring deeply, and being willing to ask one simple question: “How can I pray for you?” We’re so thankful for students who are growing in boldness and faithfully sharing the love of Jesus wherever they go.
