Day 4 of Ministry - NYC Mission Trip

Posted on

Yesterday, Mr. Chris and I were sitting while Lyndsay was journaling about her encounter, and then Mr. Chris and I started walking up and down the sidewalk, looking into buildings. I think one of them was a library. Mr. Chris was talking about how people don’t notice what’s around them—just what’s right in front of them—and that really stuck with me.

As soon as Lyndsay finished journaling, I took her & SK into the library. There were a lot of people inside, but two things stood out. There was a guy in the back who seemed disabled and really interesting to talk to, but he was leaving as we walked in. Then we noticed a group of about six or seven people gathered together.

We walked up & asked, “Are y’all doing a Bible study?” and they said yes. They were super intrigued when we told them we were on a mission trip. They said they were studying the Fruits of the Spirit that night—which was so cool because I was wearing a Fruits of the Spirit shirt. They gave us little packages with a Fruits of the Spirit pin and bracelet. My pin was an orange, which has a lot of meaning to me, so that was really special.

We told them we’ve been memorizing five Bible verses, & when our group got together, we recited them. One of the ladies in their group said they had just recently done a Bible study on the exact same verses we were reciting. That’s when she opened her Bible and showed us where she had written the Romans Road to Salvation inside the front cover. It was so amazing to see how God connected what we were learning with what they had just studied.

Then Amelia & Si came in, and we all started talking about our outreach and street evangelism. They were shocked (in a good way) that we were so young and out sharing Jesus, and they said our boldness encouraged them to do some street outreach too. Si talked a lot about how Mr. Chris is as a leader—how he guides us, challenges us, and helps us grow. It was just a really special moment that showed how God brings people together in the most unexpected places—right outside Grand Central Terminal in New York City. -Written by three of our students
