"Is Your Group Christian?" San Francisco Mission Trip Story

Posted on

Every mission trip has moments that stay with you—encounters where you know without a doubt that God was present. One of those happened just outside the Tenderloin in San Francisco.

While we were walking the streets and sharing the love of Jesus, a woman approached our group with urgency and emotion. She grabbed Shayli’s wrist and asked us to pray for her. Without hesitation, Shayli began praying—asking for God’s healing, protection, and peace. She gently reminded the woman that no matter what she was facing, Jesus was walking beside her.

After the prayer, the woman looked at us and asked, “Is your group Christian?” Reed replied, “Yes ma’am, we are.” She shared a little more of her story, then turned to Camran and thanked her for speaking Spanish—even just a little. She said it was beautiful that someone would try to speak her language, and it meant a lot to her.

She asked each of us to pray for her, and we did—Shayli prayed again, then I prayed. Then something beautiful happened: the woman prayed for us. Her prayer flowed between Spanish and English as she lifted up our group with such sincerity and strength. It was one of those holy moments—strangers united by the Spirit of God, standing together in the middle of a busy city street, covered in peace.

Now back home in Thomasville, Georgia, we’ve talked about that moment many times. It reminded us that ministry goes both ways—God not only uses us to love and serve others, but often sends others to encourage and pray for us too.

We give God all the glory—for encounters like this, and for every opportunity to be His hands and feet. - San Francisco mission trip 2025 (Spring Break)
