A couple of weeks ago, our students returned from our annual mission trip to New Orleans. Throughout the week, we asked each student to keep a journal and write about the people they met, the conversations they had, and the ways they saw God at work. This is one of those journal entries, written by one of our students after an encounter with a man named Kobe.
New Orleans Mission Trip – Day 4
Today we were under the bridges and we had a couple good encounters. We talked to a man named Kobe. He had just gotten out of church, and he said, “God bless you,” before we mentioned anything about ministry.
He was a former military helicopter pilot. He then worked in tourism. When we first offered him a chair, he wouldn’t accept it. He told us all about his life and shared stories of how God has been with him through these situations. Even though he was homeless, he was still very intentional in saying how God saved his life multiple times.
He also mentioned how we need to look and see God in nature, travel, and experiences. He referenced Romans 1:20, reminding us that since creation, God has made Himself known through what He has made so that people are without excuse.
