NYC Mission Trip Story 2021

Posted on

One of our students wrote this essay for a class assignment: My very first mission trip was to New York City in the summer of 2021. I had never been on a trip like this before, so I had no idea what to expect. Getting there I had already felt discouraged after having to go through the busy subway with ten people's suitcases and bags. We went to the house and all of us were exhausted. We had so many things packed into the next ten days, and I didn’t think I could do it. Starting out the next morning to go do ministry I wanted to see my mom and be at home. Our guide that was helping us get around NYC introduced us to something called ATL which stands for “Ask the Lord”. We had to sit for 10 minutes and clear our minds to try to see something that God was showing us. Throughout the day, we had to try and find what God had shown us. I didn’t think this would work but, of course, I went along with it. The only thing I could see was an orange color with yellow writing. Within the next 20 minutes, we came across a truck driver sitting in his truck on his phone. My group decided to go up and talk to him and I immediately noticed his orange shirt with a yellow logo on the side. I made my way to the front of the group and told him about my experience with what God had shown me. I asked if I could pray for him after a while of talking and once I was finished he looked at me and said, “No one has ever prayed for me. Thank you.” This was also my first time praying for someone. This experience reminds me that there’s people who don’t know God and how good much he can do for you.
